Host a Conference and Connect Ideas

On 18 & 19 March 2017, Jay Atwood (EdTechTeam) and I hosted the Taiwan Google Summit at Kaohsiung American School. In truth, this amazing tech conference could not have happened without the support of the most innovative professional speakers in the field (Anita Chen, Vivian Lin, Mike Yung, etc.) and our team here at KAS (special accolades to the Tech Crew, the Tech Ambassadors, and of course Robert, Lena and Tom).

During this weekend long event, I lead a workshop on how to build a teacher website in minutes. I would like to share my resources here.

Google Summit in Taiwan

This was a really energizing event for all who participated. Both days opened with brilliant keynotes. On Saturday, professor Benson Yeh lit up the assembly recalling his experience implementing the concepts of gamification in his university course.

On day 2, my friend Suan Yeo, education evangelist at Google gave us another insight into the future of education with his talk cleverly entitled #YouHadOneJob.

During 8 sessions, summiteers could build their own schedule and attend any of the workshops lead by a total of 22 presenters. My workshop took place in the afternoon of Day 2.

Resources to Build a Website

Over 35 professionals from various fields attended my hour-long session. My goal was to have each of them publish the fundamentals of a website using Google Sites.

The first steps were to direct people to the new Google Sites. The old version of Sites is clunky and if it still has more features under the hood, it is rather atrocious to look at. The new Sites is clean and most importantly responsive on all devices.

After teaching the fundamentals of building the home page, we created an about me page, and project pages. Amongst the features we looked into were how to add text, photos, and videos to each page.
